Brouwerij 't IJ has been brewing unique Amsterdam specialty beer since 1985. Musician Kasper Peterson founded the company after becoming acquainted with Belgian beer styles. As a member of the band Door Mekaar , he regularly performed in Belgium and developed an above-average interest in the beer from the southern neighbours. He then realised similar specialty beers were hardly brewed in the Netherlands, so decided to do it himself.
"Our IPA is a dark blond beer with a distinct hop flavour. The abbreviation stands for India Pale Ale. This is an originally English beer style that arose when the English ales were given a higher alcohol percentage and a stronger hop recipe. This way they better survived the ship's journey to the colonies. In our IPA, we have not only added hops to the beer during brewing, but also during maturation . This creates delicious aromas of grapefruit and flowers. A beer with a fruity, bitter aftertaste that lingers for a long time".
